College of Engineering Process for Addressing SEA 202

The College of Engineering has a wide breadth of School-specific processes for Standards S-4.  To ensure a uniform process is implemented across the College we will run a parallel reporting process for AY 2024-25 which each school can then insert within their existing S-4 review.

Step 1.  All faculty will be sent a secure form (via Qualtrics) collecting the following questions.  The invitation will be sent from the Head of each school with a response date of April 30.  The invitation will emphasize that this is required by law, and the College process is aimed at asking faculty to provide this information as part of their annual review that they’ve already begun in Elements so that there is a single point of data collection for this particular aspect of the review to determine if faculty have attested in the affirmative to performing the activities as laid out in SEA 202 during the 2024-2025 Academic Year to date.  The Qualtrics for will ask for the following information and 2 questions with Yes/No options

Faculty name and primary school appointment

  1. Have you exposed students to scholarly works from a variety of political or ideological frameworks that may be within and applicable to the given academic discipline?
  2. Have you refrained from subjecting students to views and opinions concerning matters not related to the discipline or assigned course of instruction?

The Qualtrics reporting form will be returned to the College of Engineering Faculty Affairs.

Step 2.  COE FA will check with VP of HR to determine if there are any active complaints regarding COE faculty.

Step 3.  COE FA will provide each School head lists of faculty who have answered the survey and verify that they are not currently subject to any complaints.  Any faculty who has not responded by April 30 will be sent a reminder by COE FA and the head made aware of any who have not responded.

Step 4.  School Heads will include comments regarding these questions in their individual meetings with faculty as part of their existing S-4 review process, including written documentation of the discussion in the annual review or inclusion in the annual merit review letter.

Step 5.  Primary committees will be encouraged by the head to include the assessment of any known concerns regarding SEA 202 in their discussion and feedback of each candidate during future tenure and promotion meetings.

Effective April 7, 2025
