PC Monitors Resolution Comparison

When ECN's User and Desktop Services group helps Purdue faculty, staff, and graduate staff purchase new desktop PCs, many opt to purchase second monitors (to double the size of their electronic desktops) and/or larger single monitors. This document serves as quick reference.

ECN's current standard new monitor is the Dell model P2314H. See our new desktop PCs page for monitor recommendations.

* DP = DisplayPort. The newest computers and/or video cards might be equipped only with DisplayPort outputs; be sure to determine whether you'll need to purchase accessory DisplayPort-to-DVI adapters for use with specific monitor models.

** The most commonly-purchased option with new desktop computers is a second 23-inch widescreen monitor, creating a double-size electronic workspace without adding much to the overall cost.

*** Some computers might require extra equipment (such as an upgraded video card) for compatibility with the largest monitors.
