Annual EEE Student Experience Survey

EEE conducts an annual survey to assess students' experiential educational experiences and assist us with continuous improvement efforts of EEE programs. This is a goal that we take seriously.

There are still some students who have yet to complete this survey.

Survey completion is required by all undergraduate students.

It is estimated that the survey will take 5-10 minutes. You must complete this survey in one sitting; there is no 'start and stop' automatic save feature. You will be asked to submit your current resume at the end of the survey. Please have an electronic copy ready and accessible to submit.

Thank you in advance for your time and thoughtful responses. Please encourage your EEE peers to participate!

EEE 48001 Senior Design and EEE 48100 Reflective Practitioner

EEE 48001 Senior Design: Current EEE juniors may be wondering about Senior Design next year.  The mainstream senior design course for EEE is EEE 48001/48002. Students take this course sequence in their final full academic year (fall-spring) and work on the same team with the same sponsor/client through that year. Projects are coordinated, and teams formed, by the instructional team. This year the instructional team is Ms. Whelton and Prof. Zhang. You can learn more about projects from over the years on the EEE site at Senior Design

EEE 48100 Reflective Practitioner: Rising EEE seniors are also welcome and encouraged to enroll in EEE 48100 Reflective Practitioner, a 1 credit course taught by Prof. Lindsey Payne in the fall.  See the attached course flyer for more details. Specific course content questions can be directed to Prof. Payne.  If interested in enrolling, speak with your EEE advisor about the course during your registration appointment.  EEE will count EEE 48100 as Technical Elective.

EEE Combined Degree Program

Environmental and Ecological Engineering, in collaboration with other Purdue departments, schools, and programs offers a combined degree program in which a Purdue student can receive a BS degree, and with one additional year of study, a Master of Science in Environmental and Ecological Engineering (MSEEE) degree. This is accomplished by dual-counting 12 appropriate course credits at the 500 level on the BS and MSEEE Plans-of-Study.

Students with an overall GPA of 3.25 or better are encouraged to consider applying to the EEE Combined Degree program. Apply during your junior year, generally the 6th semester (or with 2 additional semesters yet to complete the BS degree).  Email eeegrad@purdue.edu with specific questions. You can also get general guidance from your EEE Faculty Mentor, your EEE advisor, Michelle Indarjit or Prof. Fu Zhao.  See the following link for details: https://engineering.purdue.edu/EEE/Academics/CurrentStudents/Graduate/CombinedDegreeProgram..

EEE Job Corner with Ms. Whelton, PE

If you are looking for summer job opportunities there is still time.  I will continue to send emails about opportunities.

The CCO is a great place to find both full time and internship related opportunities.  I don’t post their opportunities.  If you don’t have a CCO account or haven’t looked at it this semester, please go to here.  The jobs tab of Linked In is another great way to look for jobs or even using general job search engines.  Don’t forget that research counts as related experience!

The final career fair of the semester is the Just in Time career fair on April 16th from 10am to 3pm. There are 34 companies and looking quickly at the list, there are some companies I know that have hired EEEs in the past:  Abbot and Dana (locally).  Remember everyone that makes something needs an environmental engineer and now many companies have sustainability initiatives above and beyond regulatory requirements.  There is also potential for information sessions to occur via the CCO calendar.  Currently nothing EEE related is listed through the end of the semester, but a company could be added.  Keep checking to see if more are added to the CCO calendar.

There is one additional CCO workshop for this semester that includes a panel of international Purdue alumni in regard to the job market in the US for international students.  It will be held via zoom on April 2nd at 11am.  You will need register before April 1st to attend.  More information is found here

Need a professional outfit for an interview or EEE’s recognition night on May 1st?  The CCO has a career closet where you can get a professional outfit for free!

Have a relaxing and refreshing spring break.

Purdue Engineering Up-Skill Survey

The Purdue Engineering Up-Skill Platform Project is a new student-run initiative dedicated to connecting both incoming and current Purdue Engineering students to useful resources. We understand that students arrive with varying levels of exposure to coding, CAD, advanced math, and other technical skills, which can leave many feeling left behind.  Additionally, differences in access to informal networks and external resources around Purdue can mean that some students miss out on useful tools and opportunities.

While Purdue offers many excellent resources, they are often scattered or under-marketed, limiting their impact. Our goal is to connect students to these existing tools, learning materials, and services while identifying any gaps where additional material may be needed to better Up-Skill students. This platform will ensure equal access to vital resources for all Purdue Engineering students, fostering a more supportive and inclusive environment for all.

To help guide this effort, we’ve created a short survey to understand the needs and experiences of current Purdue Engineering students. We especially want feedback from current freshman in engineering as most of our team consists of upperclassmen. All responses will remain anonymous.  See attached flyer.

Professional Licensure & FE Exam: What is it? When to take it? How to prepare?

The Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is typically the first step in the process leading to the P.E. license. It is designed for students close to finishing their engineering degree or recent graduates. The FE is a computer-based exam that is administered year-round at NCEES (National Council of Examiners for engineering and Surveying) approved Pearson VUE test centers. FYI – Purdue has an approved test site.  The FE contains 110 multiple-choice questions. The exam appointment time is 6 hours long, which includes a nondisclosure agreement, tutorial (8 minutes), the exam (5 hours and 20 minutes), a scheduled break (25 minutes), and a brief survey.

What is professional licensure all about and why is it important?  Learn more at https://www.nspe.org/sites/default/files/resources/pdfs/GR/2017handouts/2017%20-%20What%20is%20a%20PE%20document.pdf

The EEE website has an information and resource page - click here. This page highlights NCEES, the Environmental Exam, links to various sites to register for the FE, what study sessions are offered on campus (not all apply to EEE, though), how to purchase study guides, and other resources to consider.

EEE FE Exam Reimbursement Program for EEE Seniors

The EEE FE Exam Reimbursement Program is meant to encourage and support EEE students to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam during their time at Purdue. It offers 100% reimbursement with a passing score and 50% reimbursement for a failing score on the FE. Once the student takes the FE, they are to provide proof of their test date and score along with an itemized receipt to Dr. Robinson, nlrobins@purdue.edu. The deadline for a reimbursement request is the last day of the month in which the student graduates. Only one reimbursement per student will be allowed.
