With research in quantum information science strong and accelerating at Purdue, a new Quantum Science and Engineering Institute was formed to coordinate and incentivize university-wide activities. ECE Prof. Yong P. Chen is the inaugural director of the institute.

Alexandra Boltasseva, professor of electrical and computer engineering, has been selected as the inaugural Discovery Park fellow. The Discovery Park Fellowship is a leadership development opportunity created to expose emerging faculty leaders to transdisciplinary research and Discovery Park’s strategic framework.

Edmund O. Schweitzer III, who earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Purdue in 1968 and 1971, has been inducted into the 2019 National Inventors Hall of Fame. Schweitzer is responsible for groundbreaking technologies in the field of electric power systems.

ECE graduate student Hung-Yi Lo has won the Best Paper Award and the Best Presenter Award at the IEEE 9th Annual Computing and Communication Workshop and Conference. Lo is a PhD student working with Prof. James S. Lehnert.

A new study suggests that acid reflux plays a role in sudden unexplained death during an epileptic seizure. The study was led by Pedro Irazoqui, professor and interim head of ECE.

David J. Love, the Nick Trbovich Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been elected to the Executive Committee of the National Spectrum Consortium. The NSC is a research and development organization that incubates new technologies to revolutionize the way in which electromagnetic spectrum is used.

ECE alumnus Suhas Sreehari has won the 2018 IEEE Signal Processing Society Young Author Best Paper Award. Sreehari (PhD ECE ’17) was a student of Charles Bouman, the Showalter Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Biomedical Engineering at Purdue.

ECE graduate student Michael Hayashi has won the IEEE Region 4 Outstanding Student Award. He is pursuing his PhD in Prof. Dan Jiao's group.

ECE graduate student Miaomiao Ma has been awarded a Cadence Women in Tech Scholarship. Winners must demonstrate a strong academic record, exemplify leadership, and demonstrate a passion for technology.
