I love puzzles, and computer programming is just one big puzzle of finding the correct sequence of commands to give a computer so that it does what you want.

Why did you choose to study electrical and computer engineering?

I love puzzles, and computer programming is just one big puzzle of finding the correct sequence of commands to give a computer so that it does what you want. However, I am also interested in how a computer is put together in terms of its hardware, so I decided to pursue Computer Engineering rather than Computer Science. Another big draw for me was that a degree in Computer Engineering will enable me to work almost anywhere, since computers are found in most every industry today.

Favorite Purdue ECE class (so far!) and why:

My favorite class thus far has been ECE 264. The subject matter really expanded my view on what computers could do, and I really enjoyed completing the homework and figuring out how to make the programs perform as I desired.

Best event or organization you’ve participated in within ECE?

My favorite ECE organization has to be Women in ECE, which is a committee within the Electrical and Computer Engineering Student Society (ECESS). I’ve met tons of other women in ECE through this club, and I’ve been able to help plan events to bring people from all disciplines together, while empowering and inspiring other women. It’s a really rewarding organization to be a part of.

Best event or organization you’ve participated in outside of ECE?

My favorite organization outside of ECE is definitely my sorority, Gamma Phi Beta. Through Gamma Phi, I’ve met some amazing friends and mentors, and I always have someone to hang out with in my free time or vent to when I’ve come home from a tough day.

What is one piece of advice you would give to a potential Purdue ECE student?

Go to office hours! They help you form bonds with your professors and other students, and you will learn a lot more when you are able to talk out a problem or concept with someone.

Who is someone in industry that you look up to and why?

My brother currently runs his own company straight out of college. He’s hardworking and creative, and is a constant inspiration to me.

What is your ultimate career goal?

I’d love to work in software development with some sort of environmental concentration. Hopefully in a year when I have a little more experience in the field, I can be more specific!

What do you do in your free time?

I love playing intramural sports and dancing with Higher Ground Dance Company when I have the time! I also love to play music on my guitar or ukulele to decompress.
