The foundational experience at Purdue really helped me in understanding that while things might seem difficult (or at times even impossible to accomplish), by continuing to work hard, nothing is impossible.  

Why did you choose to study electrical and computer engineering?

I really enjoy solving problems and being part of high-energy teams. I was drawn to the discipline, math, and logic required to understand electrical engineering. 

Favorite Purdue ECE class or experience:

The experience I enjoyed the most were the labs.  Getting the hands on practice really helped me in my learning.

What are you doing currently?

Currently, I serve on the Board of Directors for Philips Lighting and Sanmina.  The role of the Board is to oversees the management of the company. Prior to that I retired from Apple, where I was the Vice President of Operations for iPad, Mac Desktop and Accessories. 

How is your Purdue degree helping you achieve your goals?

The foundational experience at Purdue really helped me in understanding that while things might seem difficult (or at times even impossible to accomplish), by continuing to work hard, nothing is impossible.  The discipline of an engineering degree has been invaluable to me.

What advice do you have for current ECE students?

Keep going!  The work you do now will benefit you for the rest of your life.

What do you do in your free time?

I enjoy being outdoors; so activities like running, bicycling, gardening and travel are part of my free time.  I am also getting into natural fabric dying and growing the plants to make the dyes; it’s like my own chemistry lab.
