Morgan McDowell
Undergraduate Student
Hometown: Oswego, IL
Major: Computer Engineering
My favorite part of Purdue ECE so far has been the community and how I feel like I genuinely know a majority of people in my major.
Why did you choose to study electrical and computer engineering?
I chose to study Computer Engineering because growing up in a generation where we were introduced to the first iPod, smart phone, and portable computers was always something that captivated me as a child and has always been an industry I wanted to be a part of.
Favorite Purdue ECE class (so far!) and why:
My favorite part of Purdue ECE so far has been the community and how I feel like I genuinely know a majority of people in my major. Going to Purdue (a big school) and then going into ECE (largest engineering school at Purdue) you’d think you wouldn’t really recognize too many faces around campus, but that’s not true and I run into people I’ve met through my major all the time.
Best event or organization you’ve participated in within ECE?
The best ECE organization I’ve been apart of is WECE, Women in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I love the group of girls and I really enjoy the events we put on.
Best event or organization you’ve participated in outside of ECE?
Outside of ECE, I’m apart of the Purdue Swim Club which is a second family to me. It’s a close group of people all doing something we love.
What is one piece of advice you would give to a potential Purdue ECE student?
A piece of advice I’d give, specifically to a someone considering CmpE, is that CmpE’s reputation of being hard should not stop you from pursuing it if it’s something that you are passionate about.
Who is someone in industry that you look up to and why?
Karlie Kloss is always my go to industry role model because she has devoted herself to getting women involved with technology, but she was also a former Victoria Secrets model.
What is your ultimate career goal?
My ultimate career goal is to be a lead or the head of a creative team designing a new product for Google, the next MacBook for Apple, or a new attraction at Disney (just for example).
What do you do in your free time?
My hobbies include photography and traveling. In my free time I sort of combine those two and enjoy managing my Disney Instagram account (@original_mouseketeer) where I post the many pictures I take on my Disney vacations.
