During my first semester in ECE, I was embarrassed to ask for help. Over time, I learned that there is no shame in asking for help because it can only help you in the future.

Why did you choose to study electrical and computer engineering?

When I first came to Purdue, I never thought I would study electrical engineering. Both of my parents are electrical engineers, and I did not want to be like them. My Dad always joked about how I was destined to be an electrical engineer. During my first year at Purdue, I became interested in ECE, and I realized that it was the best major for me.

Favorite Purdue ECE class (so far!) and why:

My favorite class so far has been the ECE Maymester course, Introduction to Machine Learning and Pattern Recognition. The course was very interesting and different compared to the other classes I have taken. Also, I loved traveling around Spain and meeting so many new people in ECE. 

Best event or organization you’ve participated in within ECE?

Women in ECE has been my favorite ECE organization. I love all the other members on the committee. It is fun to plan events to promote networking between other women in our major. My favorite event is the WECE Donut Day. 

Best event or organization you’ve participated in outside of ECE?

I2D2 is a program run through WIEP designed to promote engineering outreach to elementary school students. This is only my second semester in it, but I have loved every minute of it. It is fun to work with the students and do activities to help introduce them to engineering.

What is one piece of advice you would give to a potential Purdue ECE student?

When things get difficult in your core ECE classes, I recommend getting a tutor or going to office hours. It is important to stay on top of the material because it just builds. During my first semester in ECE, I was embarrassed to ask for help. Over time, I learned that there is no shame in asking for help because it can only help you in the future. 

What is your ultimate career goal?

Ever since I started to get my certificate in entrepreneurship, I have been very interested in starting up my own company. I don’t know what type of company I would like to create, but I think it would be cool to have a business that does engineering consulting work.

What do you do in your free time?

I have recently been interested in traveling. One goal I have is to visit every state in the United States. I usually travel during breaks, so hopefully I will achieve this goal soon. At Purdue, if I ever have free time, I try to catch up on sleep.
