Alexandra Boltasseva, professor of electrical and computer engineering, has been chosen as a finalist for the 2018 Blavatnik National Awards for Young Scientists. Boltasseva and 30 other finalists will compete for the world’s largest unrestricted prizes for early career scientists — $250,000 each for three Blavatnik National Laureates in the categories of Life Sciences, Chemistry, and Physical Sciences & Engineering.

Purdue researchers, including ECE Prof. Haiyan Wang, have observed a way that the brittle nature of ceramics can be overcome as they sustain heavy loads, leading to more resilient structures such as aircraft engine blade coatings and dental implants.

Purdue ECE professors Wenzhuo Wu and Peide Ye have discovered a new two-dimensional material, derived from the rare element tellurium, to make transistors that carry a current better throughout a computer chip.

Dr. Leah Jamieson, the Ransburg Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and John A. Edwardson Dean Emerita of Engineering, received an honorary Doctor of Science, honoris causa, from the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) at a commencement ceremony held May 15th in Newark, NJ.

Peide "Peter" Ye, the Richard J. and Mary Jo Schwartz Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the College of Engineering, has been chosen as the 2018 Arden L. Bement Jr. Award recipient. One of Purdue University's top three research honors, the Bement Award is given for significant accomplishments in pure and applied science and engineering. Ye is being honored for his field-defining work in synthesizing and applying novel electronic materials to achieve record device performance.

ECE students Baibhab Chatterjee, Debayan Das, and Prof. Shreyas Sen received a Best Poster Award (3rd) at the 2018 IEEE International Symposium on Hardware Oriented Security and Trust (HOST), held April 30-May 4, 2018 in Mclean, Virginia.

ECE junior Cameron Lackey spent the Spring 2018 semester studying abroad at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in Madrid, Spain.

Purdue ECE graduate students Mohamed Hagag and Mahmoud Abdelfattah won the best conference paper award at the 19th annual IEEE Wireless and Microwave Technology Conference (WAMICON 2018). The paper title was: "Balanced Octave-Tunable Absorptive Bandstop Filter."

Nathan Conrad, I-Fan Lin, and Hung-Yi Lo were recipients of the Teaching Academy Graduate Teaching Award. This award honors graduate students with teaching responsibilities for their dedication to Purdue undergraduate students and their exceptional teaching contributions.

Purdue researchers, led by ECE Prof. David Ebert, have developed an online platform that enables first responders to monitor emergency situations using tweets and Instagram posts. Called the Social Media Analytics and Reporting Toolkit (SMART), the browser-based platform filters social media content according to key words and geographic regions defined by the user.
