Professor Niklas Elmqvist has won the 2014 Purdue Student Government Graduate Mentoring Award. The goal of this award program is to recognize Purdue University graduate faculty for their outstanding mentoring of graduate students on the Purdue University campus. This award is unique in that graduate students are solely responsible for nominating and selecting faculty candidates as well as voting upon the recipient.

The selection criteria used to evaluate applications:

• Excellence in Mentoring the faculty member should display characteristics indicative of a good mentor (e.g., open door policy, guidance and supervision, role model of productive behaviors and attitudes).
• Research Agenda The faculty member should display a concentrated research agenda and actively involve graduate students in research.
• Graduate Teaching The faculty member should be recognized as a good teacher of graduate level courses.
• University and Community Engagement The faculty member should be actively engaged on campus and/or the community and promote/involve graduate students in engagement.

Professor Elmqvist was selected from a group of 30 nominees in a wide variety of disciplines.
