HNTB Inc. receives recognition for Perry St. Bridge in Napoleon, Ohio
HNTB Inc. placed third in the Annual ACEC National Grand Conceptor Award competition for the Perry St. Bridge in Napoleon, Ohio. They will be recognized at the ACEC's 2007 Annual Convention May 6th through the 9th in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1914, HNTB has built a reputation for excellence and innovation in the transportation industry by designing movable bridges, the first modern turnpike and a significant portion of the U. S. interstate system. HNTB's capabilities have expanded to include services in architecture, aviation, toll roads, and rail-transit.

James M. Barker, SE., PE., Purdue Civil Engineering Alumnus and recently retired Vice President of HNTB Inc. developed the concept and supervised both the design and construction of the Perry St. Bridge enabling the demolition of the old bridge and construction of the new 700 ft. $19M structure in a nine month period. Jim is currently a volunteer staff person in the Civil Engineering Senior Design course, CE 498. The Senior Design project is titled "Purdue Village Community Center and Purdue University Child Care Center " and has seventy four seniors working on teams of 5 or 6 competing for the Design-Build contract that emphasizes Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) principles.
