
89 Academic All-Big Ten Honors for Fall Sports Season

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Athletics continued to make the grade as student-athletes from the fall sports season produced 89 Academic All-Big Ten honors for their academic excellence in the classroom.
Purdue set a department record during the 2021-22 school year with 265 Academic All-Big Ten honorees, including 107 from the fall season, plus 72 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars.
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten, student-athletes must be enrolled full-time at their university for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Big Ten Distinguished Scholar recognition is based on a 3.7-plus yearly or cumulative GPA for sophomores and above.
Football led the way with 38 Academic All-Big Ten honorees this fall. Cross country produced 22 (13 women, 9 men). Soccer (19) and volleyball (10) both had a large majority of their award-eligible student-athletes also recognized.
Runner Ian Hunter and placekicker Mitchell Fineran earned special recognition for maintaining flawless 4.0 cumulative GPAs. Hunter has maintained his 4.0 as a four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and is now pursuing a master's in computer science after graduating earlier this year with a triple major. Fineran has a 4.0 in his technology leadership and innovation graduate program at Purdue.
Among the Boilermakers recognized as an elite group of 29 student-athletes to be honored by the conference for at least the third time. Of those 29, seven are enrolled in master's programs and were recognized for the fourth time. All-Big Ten quarterback Aidan O'Connell is closing out his career as a five-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
Altogether, 55 of the 89 Boilermakers recognized this month are now multi-year Academic All-Big Ten honorees. Football had the highest percentage with 25 of its 38 honorees (66%) making the list again.
The Big Ten Conference recognized a total of 1,619 student-athletes as Academic All-Big Ten honorees for the fall sports season. That total includes 614 from football, 370 from soccer, 359 from cross country, 135 from volleyball and 141 from field hockey.
